I have Vegas v.20 on Windows 10 after my Windows 7 finally croaked.

The outfit that set it up for me and installed new drives seemed very knowledgable (I don’t know squat about hardware… I’m just a scum “user”), and everything is working fine. It’s just that I notice Vegas has a fair amount of hiccupping and lag, and I have to preview most edits now in “Draft Mode > Quarter” for it to keep up, and I always could use “Preview > Auto” with my Vegas 10 and Windows 7 with no problems.

I’m wondering, though: Are there some settings or preferences I should check in Vegas to make sure there aren’t any undesirable or unnecessary checkboxes that might be what’s handicapping things?

    Thank you!

it sounds like your new setup might need some tweaks. Check Vegas’ preferences under ‘Video’ and ensure ‘GPU acceleration’ is enabled. Also, under ‘File I/O,’ make sure ‘Enable legacy AVC file decoding’ is unchecked. If the lag persists, try lowering the preview resolution or closing background apps. Your hardware might also need a driver update. Hope this helps!

Nir, you mentioned “…splitting the footage to shorter length cuts and track them individually”.

    Can you elaborate on this?

    Hi Kelly,

I’m sorry but I accidentally replied here instead of another post (tried to delete this reply but couldn’t find a way)

    Hello, Kelly!

Based on what I see, it seems like the main issue here might be the RAM usage.

Windows 10 uses about two times more RAM than Windows 7. Considering the massive jump on your Vegas version, too, it looks like your hardware cannot keep up with the RAM usage.

Are you able to open task manager and take a screenshot with Vegas running, so I can see the RAM usage? If this is indeed the issue, there are some settings you can adjust to improve the performance without affecting the quality as much.

Hey Jurgen, I replied back with a screen grab of my RAM usage, but I may have needed to reply directly to you. Sorry if this is a duplicate.
