July 13, 2020 at 8:12 pmI looked at their user forum page last week, the newest post is over 18 months old. I can’t post a question without having a serial number or my old forum account password, and that is linked to a long defunct e-mail system.

July 15, 2020 at 9:02 pm?? I’m hoping you have some more advice.
Anyone know of a company that would be able to do the transfer if I sent them the files? I tried a place called ‘Legacybox’ with no luck, no luck locally yet, either.

July 29, 2020 at 5:58 pmI just created a DropBox account and uploaded one of the files. It actually plays from DropBox as well as it did using Handbrake — a few frames/second. Premiere won’t even import them.
I have no idea how to make this available to particular individuals. Let me know if you are willing to give it a try and I will read the FAQs on DropBox to figure it out.
To sum up the problem from a previous post: The ORIGINAL video was HDV, after editing I used a Matrox VFW codec (M703) and saved it as an AVI. Installing the Matrox VFW codecs cause Premiere to crash.

July 29, 2020 at 6:01 pmI will be leaving in a few hours for a place where I won’t have internet access for a day or two, so might not be able to get back to you before Friday night or Sat.

August 22, 2020 at 3:19 pmI eventually gave up on using the Matrox Forums to get help, but found there current support phone number, and they responded quickly–even though I had no serial number to give them.
The answer is that the Matrox VFW codecs were never updated to run in Windows 10. They suggested that I use a Windows 7 machine. I did a fresh install of Win 7 and with VFW installed, I could view the old files in Windows Media Player and RealPlayer (although not in the correct wide-screen ratio), so I thought the problem was solved.
But, Premiere still locks up when trying to render the files (and Pinnacle Studio only shows a black screen). It appears as though there are certain spots along the timeline that cause the problem, as I was able to export short intervals of time (from 30 seconds up to 3 minutes at a time) but it would always lock up once I tried to get past the 10-minute mark. A few other old videos show nothing but black or gray and won’t export anything.
So, I guess I’ll just have to be satisfied with the video that was captured on the school’s standard def camera. What is frustrating is that if I would have just made blu-ray ISO files at the time, I WOULD be able to burn those now. I did that for one game, but in 08-09 almost nobody had blu-ray players, so I never bothered to make more at the time.
