Normal? Can’t Play ProRes HQ on MacbookPro 2.66 wo rendering

There are now twenty-five posts in this thread, which seems like a huge waste of bandwidth to me, especially given that Jeff seems to have completely ignored the tip I gave him regarding ProRes HQ as overkill, which Jeremy has just backed-up. So, while you may think that his problems are not hard drive related, we may never know if Jeff doesn’t even bother to try ProRes SQ on his system.

And it does seem as if a specific system issue has been turned into a discussion on the merits of ProRes and ProRes HQ – no one has any idea what is causing the system issues, but it’s not his drive, in all likelihood, and it’s not the HQ-yness of his footage. Perhpas we should all move along if we can’t provide a solution…

So David, I’m fuzzy about your recommendation. Are you suggesting to recompress all the HQ files to standard ProRes and then see if I can play those on my laptop?

Otherwise, I hear others saying I should be able to play these files on my laptop with no problem (even if HQ quality is unnecessary).

And if I should be able to play these files without a hiccup then perhaps Ben is correct in that I should try a fresh erase and install?

BTW I can’t play these files in QT player either without it being a bit jumpy.

No Jeff, I’m suggesting that you transcode one file and see if it plays on your laptop.

Okay, glad you tried it, that’s one more thing to rule out, sorry it didn’t work.

Now, try uninstalling your Kona drivers using the uninstall utility that was placed in your Applications folder when you installed the drivers initially, then fix permissions using the Apple Disk Utility, then reinstall the Kona drivers. You may be very surprised to suddenly find all is working well again, or on teh other hand you might still be in the same position.

Did the re-install with permissions repair before and after with the same results. Even in AJA VTR Exchange I’m not getting smooth playback.
I tried booting from a two-week old clone of 10.5.6 made prior to the updates, but same result.
