Yes, you want to make it as close to the original video so as not to loose too much quality.

I’m having the same problem except I’m using Vegas Pro 9 and my galaxy s3 videos only show up as a black screen with audio. I have uninstalled my codec pack and also reinstalled Vegas completely but I still get the same results. I am going to try downloading the trial or Vegas 11 since it’s the latest version my computer will accept being a 32-bit processor and I guess I’ll report back once I do that.

Sometimes, they don’t uninstall cleanly and you can never undo their damage without reformatting and reinstalling Windows. Codec-paks are like viruses for video editors. Never install one on your editing workstation. Good luck.

I have a Galaxy S3 as well and have no issues playing video from it on Pro 9. Make sure you have the latest build installed (9.0e Build 1147). I have QuickTime Player 7.6.8 installed on my machine as I’ve found that newer versions of it messed things up.

This is the critical thing. At some point, changes in QuickTime broke Vegas Pro and Sony fixed it but if you are going to stay on old versions of Vegas you need to stay on old versions of Quicktime.

Well I tried to use Vegas 11 but due to the fact that I’m still on XP I couldn’t install it. I finally got Vegas 10 installed and my video shows up fine. Nice to know that my codec pack wasn’t a problem and I also have the latest version of Quicktime installed. I didn’t try installing the latest version of 9 but perhaps I should give that a shot and see if it makes any difference since I was on 9.0c.
