Activity Forums Boris FX Particle Illusion No More Emitters?

    I agree with Philip.

I use a small set of the emitters all the time and modify them to suit. Frankly, if I need something special for a once-off effect I have always found something that I can amend in the current library. The number of emitters in the current library is huge.

I also notice that despite Alan asking a few times, there was no huge rush back to him with suggestions for new emitters.

PI is excellent, and the quality (for me at least, mainly used in projections) is excellent.

I would echo the 64 bit requirement, but I would also like to be able to use the emitters in 3d space rather than reverting to lots of masking and keyframing.

What would be really welcome for me would be some tutorials on creating emitters. For example, if you take the last few emitter packs released, and take one or two from each of those – a tutorial in how they were created would be very helpful.

    Thanks

I would like to see some non-confusing good tutorials on how to create emitters.

I understand that the emitters are complicated. But I also realize as long as the lingo isn’t too technical and there is plenty of “Good” visual references that it isn’t that difficult to convey what you want people to know.

I had purchased particle illusion shortly before I had to change where I lived to a different state. That was nearly one year ago. Time has flown by. I said it was six months in my previous posting.
Between moving and a different job I have not been using particle illusion. So I was quite surprised to find out that the particle illusion emitters were not being released like they used to be.

Requesting scanned images so that emitters could be released by the end of the month never happened.

It would have been nice if information would have been released letting particle illusion owners know what was going on with the emitter libraries.

I don’t believe it is the responsibility of the owners of particle illusion to have to dig up such information.

Now that I understand what is going on I don’t have a problem with it whatsoever.

I also wouldn’t mind being able to create animations like that mouse if it isn’t too difficult.I would expand on that but I think everybody knows the mouse I’m talking about.Thats also why I think those type of emitters would be a “big draw” for future sales also!

Part of the reason I was so interested in particle illusion was that I wouldn’t have to go to the trouble of creating my own emitters. Nor am I interested in the same old emitters slightly reworked.

Wasn’t trying to stir up trouble. I tend to be very blunt and direct. That’s just the way I am. No hard feelings Alan!

Considering what 64 Bit does for video editing. Not evolving Partical Illusion is nothing more than the equivalent of a slow death spiral in my opinion.

Joe — no worries, I understand where you’re coming from.

Most pI users do not regularly download the emitter libraries, or don’t use them even if they do download. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) those who do download and use them rely on them.

The information on the reduced emitter frequency is in about the only place it makes sense: on the emitter downloads page of wondertouch.com. I can understand how you missed it, but email is no longer a reliable way of reaching customers (too much spam filtering).

The “mouse” emitter depends 98% on the images used for the particles, and 2% on pI. In other words, it’s really got nothing to do with pI. We don’t have access to a professional animator, so those types of emitters are almost impossible to create.

I’ll think about the tutorials. How they’re created from scratch is difficult, as most evolve from existing emitters, but analyzing how they work is possible and probably almost as good.

    Alan.

    Alan,

As you know, I’ve brought up the 64-bit question/suggestion for PI before as I have reiterated it here in this thread above, but I don’t recall you ever directly responding to its (realistic or unrealistic) implementation.

Could you please elaborate a little on whether this is a totally pie-in-the-sky user-wish or a feasible expectation/possibility? If the latter, any sense of when it could become a reality?

    Thanks.
