    Ross –
Shane told you in the previous post – YOU NEED MORE RAM ? Get it – minimum of 16 gig of RAM !!!

you are all excited about the computer to run Media Composer on. There are two things to remember –
you don’t want to edit with native XAVC – you need to transcode this. Do you know how to do this ?
Do you know what AMA is ?
And you must address your storage. Have you looked at the prices of thunderbolt 2 or thunderbolt 3 RAID arrays that are at least 64 Terabytes ?

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for your suggestions! Yes, I know how to transcode. Yes, I know what AMA is. and Yes, I have looked into and can afford to buy the enormous hard drives that you and Shane suggest.

But what I am wondering is if the RAM in the computer can be upgraded. If I buy a computer with 8 gigs, can I upgrade to 64 gigs?

    Thanks,

    Ross Spears

You can, but that’s more than you need if you ONLY run Avid. You can get 16 and you’ll be fine. Beyond that you won’t see any speed benefit at all. Avid doesn’t leverage RAM…this just means you have have more than one app open at a time.

OR…if you use Adobe products, RAM does come into play
