When I do write on effects, I just manually create a stroke that runs right through the center of the letter as a shape layer and make it thick enough to cover the letter, then use the trim paths animator and use that as a track matte for the letter. Thats how I got the effect of the letters revealing in this:

Obviously a lot more going on in that, but you can see how each letter actually writes on. It takes a little time to do, but you get a lot of control this way and have a lot more flexibility later in the project.

May 14, 2014 at 2:39 pmI can’t afford to lose time on each word. What I have to do is a whole song, 400 words. So I think stroking the mask will work fine for now.
