Sorry about the delay on this, but what I did was obviously download the software and the binaries (and to the uninitiated – follow the directions on the ffmpegx site very closely as it’s not just a standard installation).

Next I took the code that Michael so GRACIOUSLY posted and did like he said and put it into TextEdit, saved it as demuxedsd.ffx (once you save the file as an rtf or whatever, go into Get Info, uncheck “Hide Extension” and change the extension to .ffx), then made a second one called demuxedhd.ffx, and changed the resolution to the 1080 settings, and put them into a folder.

Once I open the program, I click “Open” on the top left of the window and open the demuxedsd (or hd – depending on your project) and it changes all the settings on the right side of the window to AVI VidX, then I drag the source file to the little window on the left (I’m at home on my laptop so I can’t take any screengrabs at the moment). Occasionally, I’ve noticed that the target res doesn’t match the source res so I just go into the Video tab and change the target accordingly. Then I click encode and bing – I have a demuxed .avi file. It plays from the desktop, it imports into FCP – it works completely.

The only thing to consider is that the settings default to mp3 audio – which you have to render in FCP (at least I do – that may be a setting I can change that I just don’t know about) – but there isn’t an AIFF option in ffmpeg, just AAC – and I just haven’t bothered to test that yet.

It really is incredible and I’m super grateful to everyone who chimed in.
