July 22, 2015 at 4:47 amBtw…running 2.1.6 here on Mavericks, and no Media100 files in my
Macintosh HD -> Library -> Preferences
folder.
That said, I do have a folder full of preferences here:
Macintosh HD -> Users -> [my unique username] -> Library -> Preferences -> Media 100 Suite PreferencesUpdate: Just realised Floh already mentioned that path.

July 22, 2015 at 5:51 amThanks Andrew.
I installed QT 7 but it still crashes as it starts to load preferences.
It is interesting that you have a folder which says Media 100 Suite Preferences. When I go to Library/Preferences – there are no Media100 files at all.
Although when I uninstalled and reinstalled it said the install was successful.
So maybe the problem is in the Preferences area. I am not sure what to do. Did your Media100 Preferences folder just install when you did the standard Media 100 install?

July 22, 2015 at 6:15 amIt’s hard to tell, as on my Mavericks system, I copied over programmes from Leopard – one of which was Media 100 1.1.3, and then when 1.1.3 didn’t work on Mavericks, I uninstalled it, and installed the latest 2.1.6 – so there’s a bit of history there!
However,
I have an external hard drive with two partitions – one with Yosemite without Media 100, and one with Yosemite with Media 100 – so I will boot into the external drive shortly, and play a little game of spot the difference, for you, =).There aren’t any issues with the permissions for preferences are there?
Did you ever try setting up a new OSX user account [System Preferences, then Users & Groups, then “+” to add a new account], logging out, then logging in as the new user, and running Media100?
Again…just guesswork.

July 22, 2015 at 6:26 amThanks Andrew,
I m not aware of any issues with permissions for preferences.
I have not tried setting up a new account. I just spent quite a few hours installing Yosemite and then I noticed the Media100 Trial and thought I would check it out. Everything else is working fine under Yosemite, so I want to leave well enough alone with the rest of the system.
Media 100 launched at first and then when I added an old media 100 file it quit and I can not get it to re-open despite all the reinstalls etc. I am not sure if the importation of that file caused the problem or if it is a preferences issue.
It will be interesting to see if any Media 100 files show up in preferences under Yosemite in your system.

July 22, 2015 at 6:53 amI’ll have a look and post back shortly.
I do recommend adding a new user – it’s a really quick way to sort out any user-specific preference issues.

July 22, 2015 at 9:01 amSo, there should be no Media 100 preferences in YourHD->Library->Preferences. But there should be files in YourHD->Users->YourHomeFolder->Library->Preferences. This Library folder is usually hidden on newer OS versions. You can access it by holding the Option key and opening the “Go To” Menu of the Finder. There your Library folder will show up as long as you keep holding the option key.
Delete the Media 100 Preferences from this folder and try again to launch the app. New pref files will be written on app startup.

July 22, 2015 at 9:36 amFloh and Andrew,
I can’t thank you enough. Locating the hidden library and then the Media 100 Suite Preferences and relaunching the Media 100 application has fixed the problem and the Media 100 Application has launched.
I should have recorded the names of the files before I deleted as the preferences after my relaunching of the application are different to when the application would not launch. When it would not launch there was a sub-folder present.
I will start a new project and use new material to test it rather than use old Media 100 files.
Again,
Thank you very much

September 2, 2015 at 3:45 amWhile the $100 price is great, for those of us that used the first version of Media 100 and have zero need to use Boris — because we tend to be cutters and not FX folks — it would be great if there was a free version of Media 100 (like Resolve Lite) with a $100 upgrade needed only to activate Boris.
Am I correct that there are no H.264-based codecs?

September 2, 2015 at 11:31 amMedia100 has a 60-day free trial period.
You can import/export with H.264 codec.

September 2, 2015 at 7:16 pmI know it has a 60 day trial.
But, like Resolve, Media100 is most likely going to be an “extra” NLE that one will explore over time. I spent almost a year working my way through Resolve before I came to trust it.
I knew John when I worked at Data Translation and you could say I wrote the book on Media 100 (e.g., Immediate100). But that was 25-years ago and I have no memory sense of M100. So by the time I found a time-slot to start using my 60-day trial, it was over. This also scuttled a review of Media 100 I had planned — although it’s not clear DV would consider one.
Today “free” is the way products are brought to market, e.g., LightPost and Resolve) is via a free version.
