Hi John:
Nope! Burning not smooth! DVDA is picking up that my Blu ray is a read only. I contacted ASUS and they say that I should be able to burn using a third party software, which DVDA is. So, that said, I dug deeper and discovered that the ASUS WINDOWS Update changed my Burner to a BD ROM. This is why when I tried to burn directly from Vegas, it told me to insert a writable disc. Also, when I try to burn directly through ASUS, it tells me to insert a writable disc, and why DVDA says it read only. So, I am in a dilemma, because facing a deadline and needing to burn this disc ASAP, I am forced to buy an external burner which is breaking my tight pocket. You mentioned before in an earlier post that I could use IMGBurn. Can I use IMGBurn without buying an external burner, even though my drive is not allowing any burning?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No it will not because the burner is reporting that it’s not a burner. You need to find out what Windows Update caused this and uninstall it. That is your only hope of reversing this. All software is going to ask the hardware what it can do and if the hardware says I’m a BD-ROM then the software is not going to be able to burn.
I would get on the phone with ASUS and ask them how to get your system working again. Maybe you just need to re-install the driver for the burner. You can also try and roll back the current driver if ASUS thinks that would help.
BTW, This is why myself and others high recommend that anyone “with a deadline” perform monthly full backups with daily incremental backups of their system. I can take my system back to any day in the last month or any month for the last 3 months. So if I know something was working last week… I just restore the daily incremental to the day before and it’s working again!
Also, Windows updates are always breaking their systems. I would turn them off and only update between projects when you have time to debug and only after taking a full backup of your system!

Hi John:
I have been on Live Chat with ASUS for two days trying to get to the bottom of the problem and they have shared a link for me to Chipset the drive. That said, it is still not working properly. The disc, when I insert it reads “BD ROM”. However trying this is, I may have to buy a BD Drive so that I can get this project in on time.
Any reason you don’t use DVDA to burn your discs?

Oh, I use DVD Architect to burn the test discs. Once I’m happy with it, I create a master ISO file and then use my disc duplicator for batch work or BurnAware for individual discs. It’s just so that I don’t have to load DVD Architect or even have it on my computer every time I need a copy (this way I can burn them from my Mac Pro) 😉 I’ve burned plenty of discs with DVD Architect of the years. Nothing wrong with it.
