    Peter

Thanks for the info. 2.5 x realtime for a transcode?? Dang. It’s looking less and less attractive. Will look closer at the Sony EX now…

Panasonic just informed me that FCP does not (yet) support the highest recording mode of this new AVC HD camera.

It supports AVCHD only at HA, HG and HE mode without any transcoder needed.

It does not support PH mode (21Mbps) yet, which was what I tested it at.

Thanks for posting your findings. That is good to know. We have four of 150s on the way and I’m trying to figure out what the workflow is going to be like. Have you had success with the other modes?

Here’s the deal. AVCcam is the new version of AVCHD that supports the 21mb rate. AVCHD is either a 9mb or 13 mb format. AVCcam uses the same compression rate, but that format is brand new, like two weeks ago, so you need to give Apple time to get a codec for the 21mb version. Relax, I’m sure you’ll have it soon…

hi guys, it seems you know a lot about avchd. And i’m just going really disapponted with my brand new panasonic HDC-HS100.
So i need a bit of your knowledge to see if i rally have to sell it as soon as i can!
    My problems are:
Takes for ever (about three times the lenght of the footage) to import it
and the quality looks really shitty.
give a look to this still from a video i just shooted
    https://www.vilma.it/downloads/hdc-hs100.png
    shutter 1/25
    iris 2.0
    maximum quality HA1920

Do you have any idea why is doing so?
and what about time importing? no other ways to work faster on it?

    Thanks

I returned the camera before shooting on the other modes. I was not interested in shooting on the other modes.

I do not own this camera and cannot advise. Use it to shoot your home movies. Thanks for sharing.

So nobody has tried using the Panny Windows software transcoder from AVC PH to P2?? What kind of quality (comparatively?) are you seeing with the footage??
Now with bootcamp on a MAC it seems that process would be fairly straightforward…

Dual 2.5 G5, IO, Kona LH, IO, Medea Raid, UL4D, NVidia 6800, 4Gig RAM
Octocore 8 GB Ram, Radeon card, MBP, MXO
Windows XP Adobe Studio CS3, Vegas 8.0, Lightwave 9.2, Sound Forge 9, Acid Pro 6, Continuum 5, Boris Red 4, Combustion 2008, Sapphire Effects

I don’t have the camera – only tested it out.

Sorry! I believe there may be improvements, but you should google or ask panasonic.
