September 3, 2011 at 11:52 pmYeah, IBM may have started it, but it has spread throughout the computer community like a contagion. My all time favorite fudism was those Apple ads with the thinly veiled fascist hipster Mac and the bumbling dufas PC, making limiting a user’s options seem like something worth spending more money on. So insidious– I never wanted a video camera on my laptop, but gotta pay extra for it if you want a Mac– no options there. It’s more than just limiting options, it’s the creation of a culture that enthusiastically embraces stricter constraints. I guess there will always be those who get excited about being told what’s what, vs those who want freedom of choice. What’s fascinating to me is that the so called, ‘creatives’ have been so easily taken in by that sort of propaganda. Very curious.
