April 11, 2007 at 10:40 pm[Byrd Mcdonald] “What happens if something goes down and you can’t re-install??”
I sent mine in expess mail, insured for $1500.00 at the last minute and it took over 1 month to get them back as I recall. Coincidentally I needed to to do a re-install 2 days after I recieved my new discs. I really counted my blessings they were back because FCP on my back-up drive wouldn’t open either.
The whole process seemed a little weird and I was a little annoyed I had to send it internationally to the US at the bussiest time of the year for the postal service, I felt something should have been in place through Apple Canada. If this was all to do with piracy then I can live with it because it is annoying so many users compete in the market place without ever paying their way in.

April 11, 2007 at 11:27 pmI am so angry at the state lotto program. I finally got around to turning in my winning ticket 13 months after the drawing for the multi-million dollar winnings and they refused to honor it because the cutoff date was exactly one year.
Grrrr

April 11, 2007 at 11:43 pmGary, you should write! You’re funny!
But quite sayiing that Walter is a shill for apple. That isn’t true, dude, and you know it! Walter is the Gandolf of Creative Cow, and if you have ever seen GOOD EATS, you know of his talents.
****
But otherwise, thanks y’all for the thoughts and feedback, and empathy.

April 12, 2007 at 1:50 am>Marcie is looking into my case, but without legally proof of when I sent this package, it’s my word against Marcie’s.
From my own experience with Apple, if you pursue this and talk to many people at Apple you will eventually find a sympathetic person who will make this right, provided you really did send it in before the 19th. It’s one of those karmic things. It’s been work, sometimes a lot of work but Apple is one of the few companies that has great escalation people who really listen to their customers. The hard part is dealing with the “Marcies” until you get to a top level person, who knows the difference between a customer who has been wronged and a bullpooper.
Good Luck

April 12, 2007 at 3:36 amFrom my perspective it was worth the low price to get the crossgrade (I can’t remember how much, but under $100). I did think the disc exchange was a bit odd. I had no plans to purchase an Intel Machine but didn’t want to fall behind. When the crossgrade arrived it sat in the box until I had a break between projects. I know this doesn’t help you now, but the next time consider copying your discs (to media or as images on a hard drive) and get the upgrade. I hope your situation will be resolved to your satisfaction.

April 12, 2007 at 9:16 pm> But, what I’m really interested in is the general consensus about how it’s ok for Apple to stop offering the cross-grade at all. How is that fair, whether someone migrated within the first 6 months of the Intel releases, or if they waited? And, if you are an active post house, on a full time job where you can’t afford to be without those discs, how can you send them in? < We were originally insulted by the demand we send in our disks but then we realized: The program was an extraordinary value and an unprecedented procedure. You make disk images of your disks as backups at your end, send them secure mail with insurance and for $50 stupid dollars you get $1,200 worth of new stuff. Finally, arguing with Apple about anything is a waste of breath. You either do it Apple's way or you don't do it. Period. Sometimes there are human beings on the phone. Most of the time they are another species. We jumped on the is deal in the first three or four weeks because Apple clearly stated there was an expiration date. Then they extended it. Then they extended it again. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

April 13, 2007 at 7:49 ami once had cause for complaint, and with no joy from the usual contact methods i tried emailing variants on sjobs@apple.com (s.jobs, stevejobs, steve.jobs, etc etc) and to my immense surprise i got a reply the very next day from the head of Apples European video team….
and they were very helpful.
This was a few years ago, but it might be worth a try…..adam
