May 12, 2007 at 6:25 amHi Chris,
Betacam are really tough machines. I know some desks working since 20 years.
But as Wayne and Lee I’m on my 50’s and I still enjoy when I switch off all the equipement and everything get silent.
CRT monitors need warm-up. Video desk with a non-smoking operator are happy enough.
Cheers,

May 12, 2007 at 11:52 pmHi,
The Firewire board in my DVCAM (DSR-11) died. Sony told me to avoid this $500 (ouch!) issue to do the following:
1. Power off computer and deck.
2. Plug in the cable.
3. Power on computer.
4. Power on deck.So I always turn my deck off BEFORe shutting down my Mac and always turn it on AFTER starting up my Mac.
Best,
WB

Sad things is… this is Sony’s way of saying this deck is so cheaply made that we didn’t want to add the protection circuit to it. Even a $150 firewire drive has that protection circuit installed.
