Well, but there is. If FCP is in a different mode than 59.94 and you material playing back is 59.94, the clip and the video output settings won’t match.

You mean the playback output settings in the A/V Device tab of the audio/video settings menu? I really only have 2 viable alternatives. Either 8 or 10 bit 720 59.94. Any other setting won’t playback or is an unsupported signal for my monitor. 720 8bit or 10bit exhibits the same behavior.

It’s really easy, Duke.

Hit control-q, select AJA Kona LHi 720p 59.94 ProRes as the easy setup and make a new sequence.

Load clip in to viewer, play.

Try loading that same clip in to a timeline and play.

Then perhaps there is something wrong with the clip. 720p59.94 clips play just fine here on the LHi we have.

Where did these clips come from?

They’re Ki-Pro clips data rate around 17 MB/sec. What kind of data rates do you have? The rates for other clips in this project are pro-res clips converted from HDV tape over firewire 23.98 fps and the data rate is around 7 MB/sec.

For 720p59.94 clips, that is the neighborhood of data rate, for sure. ProRes is VBR so it will fluctuate a little bit.

HDV is much smaller than ProRes.

Any chance you can upload a small/short full res sample of the KiPro capture?

I’ve uploaded a 345meg sample clip. I have confirmed that this clip has the same playback problems as the other 59.94 fps clips.

this whole thing is insane. You should be able to playback a single stream of ProRes422 or DVCProHD right from your boot drive. Something is very wrong with your system.

For your Xserve RAID –
open RAID Admin (you do have RAID admin, right ?)
click on Setttings> Performance
under performance, click this for EACH SET of drives –
Disk Drive Cache – enable (check this box)
Allow Flush – disable (uncheck this box)
Cache – enable (check this box)
Streaming – disable (uncheck this box)
Read Prefetch – 8 stripe (this is in the middle window).

OK, now for your computer – you did not say what type of MAC this is – is this an early MAC Pro ? Is it a Model 1,1 version that uses Expansion Slot Utility ? Open up Expansion Slot Utility (do you know how to do that), and MAKE SURE that NOTHING is in a x1 slot. The XServe RAID is old, so I am guessing that your Mac Pro is old. The AJA Kona card AND the Apple Fibre card CANNOT BE in a x1 slot.
If you are unsure, check the bottom (4th) selection, which will give you x4 x4 x8 x8, so you can properly test your system.

when doing tests, ALWAYS start with a new project, go into EASY SETUPS, select what you want (like HD, DVCProHD, 59.94) and once the project opens, open up a NEW SEQUENCE. Then import your KiPro media, and do your test.
