March 22, 2006 at 7:59 pmJared, is your video card an ATI X800 XT? Just trying to look for common denominators…

March 22, 2006 at 8:01 pmYes… They’re stumped on this one… I was told that no one has ever reported this before and they don’t have answer. So, good try…

March 22, 2006 at 8:19 pmYea, video card is a ATI Radeon 9800 XT. I also have some firewire and usb devices attached to my system, but I don’t know how that would affect anything, unless there is a driver issue. I can think of 3 things with drivers that could effect things, Wacom tablet, Kensignton Mouse, and APC UPS. Firewire device is DA Max. And that is everything. I have really tried to keep the system as clean as possible.

March 22, 2006 at 9:46 pmOk…. Now, i’m stumped. The only thing we have in common is an Apple G5 computer with an ATI video card. Otherwise we have different models and different devices installed.

March 22, 2006 at 11:02 pmWell, I certainly don’t know what the problem is, but I can assure you that I have not seen this problem with FCP/AJA Kona 2, on MAC G5 dual 2.7 2 Gig RAM, and the usual assortment of Beta 1800’s, etc. I certainly have seen “no communication” errors on systems (just got a call on one today) – but these problems are usually resolved by cycling power on the I/O (not on a regular basis), reseating cables, trashing preferences, and ultimately doing a clean install (of either FCP, or the entire damn system). This is not a regular problem on clean working systems.
I certainly would not want to do a ground zero rebuild for a problem that can be resolved by a reboot, and I feel your pain, but I do not believe that this is an AJA issue.

March 28, 2006 at 11:53 pmI think you’re wrong. I think it’s the Kona2 card.
Running G5, dual 2.7, OSX 10.4.
Fostex D-10 (DAT deck)Kona 2 RS422 plug will not control it; can’t even be seen.
Ran RS422 through my AJA I/O…worked perfectly. Then I routed my digital audio through the Knoa2 AES plug.
Therefore I had TC and control – RS422 – through the IO, audio through Kona 2.
Tried Kona 2 422 with JVC BR-HD50: wouldn’t work.
Please fix the drivers.

March 29, 2006 at 12:28 amI have had consistent success using a Keyspan USB to Serial adapter, then running the serial to an ADC S 824 serial patch bay.
I have had to “remind” FCP that its device control is to be through one of the serial ports on the Keyspan any time there is a crash or new set of Easy Setup that has not been manually set.
Other than this annoying feature, which I wish was more like avid’s, I would vouch for the Keyspan setup.

March 29, 2006 at 2:18 amThe Fostex D-10 DAT machine does not follow Sony P2 RS422 protocol. The AVID Media Composer will also not control the Fostex D-10 DAT machine.
You have not given a valid example. No one is going to write special drivers for the Fostex D-10.bob Zelin
