Your 500GB drive is it 7200RPM?”It is my Ki Pro that Ron is referring to. It worked perfectly with the 250GB drive that it came with. Couldn’t be happier. But when we switched to the 500GB drive, it stopped about 10 times at random intervals with all the buttons flashing and the warning “Dropped Frames” (I think that was the message.)
When we switched back to the 250GB drive, the problems stopped. There is zero evidence that it has anything to do with settings or the input signal since these did not change between the two drives. The source was the output of my Panasonic AW-HS50 switcher.
The 500GB drive was the one that AJA provided. One can only assume that they put the proper drive in the box. I intend to return the drive as defective under warranty since it was the very first time I had powered it up and used it. Needless to say, it rather ruined what would have been a marvelous first experience with the KiPro.

November 16, 2010 at 12:41 pmI assume you formatted the drive using the KiPro before hitting record?

Well, it does not record otherwise, so we can assume that I did that.

January 21, 2011 at 6:39 pmWe had the same problem last night.
Our workflow….
Sony XDCam camera, using the HD-SDI out to the KiPri at 1080i (note SDI out will not send 720 though the XDCam will record to disc at 720)KiPRo Set to record at ProResHQ, 720P.
After a minute of recording, “dropped frames” message.
Today we tried to recreate the error and couldn’t! All the same gear in the setup.
We did discover that if you have the KiPro changing resolutions (1080 to 720P recording) AND downconverting the output to SD, it will not work. Only one conversion at a time.
This is not the first time we have had the “dropped frames” error issue. And we format the drives in the KiPRo before use.

September 16, 2011 at 5:32 pmHi Shane,
I posted this text before in another Cow Thread and I hope it doesn’t get banned.
Here’s a little solution to this problem for some of you.
The AJA Ki Pro (and maybe Ki Pro mini as well – unfortunatly I don’t have one to test it) can be controlled via Ethernet.
Therefore I wrote a little application that automatically controls several Ki Pro’s and if one of them stopped recording it will automatically put it back in record mode.
It’s only kind of a Beta version, because for example I just have one Ki Pro to test it on, but it seems to work fine. Another problem is, that there’s a little pause between a stop and record (about 200 milliseconds and bigger).
You can find this application here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ajakipromonitor/It should run just fine on any platform as long as you got Java Runtime installed which you can download here:
https://www.java.comThe application is, of course, tottaly free – use it at your own risk.
