January 25, 2009 at 3:01 amI think I’m going to run some tests, and see what photo JPEG looks like. I know several people that use JPEG 2000 for archival. I think if I can find a format that is universal that looks good and won’t be an incompatible codec in a few years.

January 25, 2009 at 3:39 amHi Asher,
PhotoJPEG is being used for distribution and stocking of high quality picture.
For example Art-Beats use this format for his products.
PhotoJPEG at 100% is RGB. At 75% is 422 YUV.
The quality of the files is incredible while the file size (SD) is even smaller than DV.

February 5, 2009 at 9:56 pmHi, Russ, I just finished a short film shot on my 2 RED ones and I’m about to send to film festivals, and the requirements to replace a 35mm copy is the jpeg 2000 format. Can I do it myself with my Mac Pro/FCP system or do I need to hire a “packaging” facility in order to do it? How does this process work?
Thanks for your help in advance! ArturoArturo Querzoli

August 12, 2009 at 9:38 pmHey, I know this is an old post what I’ve got a quick question if you have the time:
I’m an indy filmmaker working with HMC150 converted to ProRes format on fcp. I’ve been asked by a small movie theater to “research jpeg 2000 format” so I can utilize their D cinema projector.
Is this harder than it sounds?

August 13, 2009 at 12:51 amHi Miguel,
To export to JPEG2000 is the same than exporting to any other codec.
You can do it with Compressor or even with QT.
The problem is that the option that these applications offer are very limited.
Contact Russell. Hi is working with this format for Digital Cinema delivery.

the DCI formats and color specs are not directly accessible from Compressor with 3rd party tools.
There is a very specific workflow and delivery when producing DCI standardized Digital Cinema content.
it is NOT just making a J2k compressed file.

January 25, 2010 at 9:16 pmDid you find a good edit work flow for the JPEG2000 files from Grass Valley Infinity camcorder? I’m doing a similar thing.

June 7, 2010 at 1:46 pmCan you play JPEG 2000 movies on a Mac, and if so, where do you get the codec?
