We just shot a month with the 70-200/f2.8L IS. We rented from borrowlenses.com – a great deal and good gear. (I don’t mind giving them a plug.) If you are considering shelling out $1500, it wouldn’t hurt to rent and test it out.
We never used IS as everything was on tripod – I know others here have said to use it. We also never shot handheld with this lens. We felt there was way too much glass up front to control the camera very well.
