Yes, I’m having similar problems because I often modify the clips to illustrate particular aspects of film theory/film editing etc. So, I’m mixing text with the video and interlacing chaos ensues. If I deinterlace the video, the text looks terrible; if I don’t deinterlace the text looks great but the video is terrible.

I’ve been doing well. I’ve been working with an ad agency the past year. It’s been interesting to be working for the Dark Side. I think the production side and the agency side are are converging, but the old ways of doing things are so entrenched it will probably take time to change.Yes, I’m still working with my brother on a project basis. He owns an Arri SR3 that he is sub-renting in Chicago (he’s still in Minneapolis).
What’s new with you? It looks/sounds like you’ve been staying busy.
best,
Brett

Yes. I made some progress this week with some help from Graeme Natress (let me put in an unsolicited plug for his FCP plugins).I had exactly the problem you describe when outputting to DVD. One mistake on my end was making an MPEG2 from a sequence that was DV50 (I thought it was better than straight DV). I believe HDV to MPEG2 is also not perfect. Using the Uncompressed 10-bit preset made a big difference, but you said you are already using that, right?
The issue for me is not what it looks like on a broadcast monitor. My graphics don’t alias there. It’s what it looks like on an LCD monitor. So maybe my whole problem is really the issue of interlaced video on a progressive scan monitor and visa versa.
