If it won’t trouble you, can you upload a second of the 30p footage as well? I will show you.

Also, what are you using to deinterlace?

[Jon Gagnon] “So my thinking is if the 30p sequence makes everything slightly more pixelated why not put it on a 60i timeline and at least half the camera shots and all the graphics will look their best then when i de-interlace the other cameras shots they’ll look slightly softer and/or more pixelated but not nearly as bad as the footage looks on a 30p sequence. “

Because eventually, you will end up with a 30p movie. No reason to take your progressive footage and interlace it, then create graphics and such that are interlaced just to have the whole thing deinterlaced for the web. You will ose a lot of qaulity in your 30p footage and your graphics that way.

[Dave LaRonde] “Well, here’s where I wonder about that. Standard-definition video, which is what we’re talking about, is interlaced. Even progressive-scan SD is recorded as two fields. There isn’t a complete frame such as you’d find in HD. “

in 720p HD. In 1080, it’s mostly recorded the same, it’s commonly known as psf. A progressive frame in an interlaced container. Some systems will allow ture 1080p capturing, but those are usually at the very high end of acquisition and post.

[Dave LaRonde] “As long as FCP doesn’t toss out one of the fields of progressive SD video in a non-interlaced timeline, thereby reducing the vertical resolution, I agree with you. “

It in fact does not. But if you add interlaced footage it will if the clips field dom is set to none. It won’t if you set it to lower (or whatever field order your sequence is).

It’s kind of messy and you should try it out on your own.

Right now I am using TMTS plugin package filter called smart de-interlace which looks pretty good but I’m open to suggestions.

Here is one second of the same clip, from a progressive timeline and interlaced timeline.

Is the footage 60i or 30p?

Acutally, what I need is a clip that is 30p (I have your 60i clip already).

Also, make sure that you are exporting at current settings. These last movies you gave have a codec of ‘none’.

    Sorry that was 60i footage.

Would you like me to upload 30P footage?

Yes. I need to show you the difference. I have one of your 60i clips from yesterday. If you give me a 30p clip, I can show you what’s what. Make sure it’s a dv/ntsc movie.
