Though Dennis probably can’t say this as he works for Adobe there’s a fairly simple way to enable GPU accelleration in most CUDA enabled nVidia chips. Look around, it’s all over the net. I enabled it for my 330M graphics chip in my Asus i7 notebook and it works like a charm – what’s needed is >768 MB of vram and enough CUDA cores to make it worthwhile. That said, without enough CPU horsepower and ram (I find the 6GB in the Asus to be the bare minimum) it won’t add up to much added editing benefit.

It means that CUDA may no longer be limited to NVIDIA cards, so apps that benefit from CUDA (like Premiere Pro’s Mercury Playback Engine, or Resolve’s noise reduction) may not require NVIDIA hardware in the future.

It also means that developing for OpenCL, which is the competing general purpose computing on GPU technology that Apple has been pushing (and which NVIDIA is actually involved with, too), just got a lot less appealing for developers already invested in CUDA.
