[Steve Rhoden] “Issues like these (as small as it is) is what enable some editors to not take Sony Vegas seriously.”

I could argue the exact opposite. In fact, many editors do. If Vegas Pro took care of it for you, some would argue that it’s modifying their source without their knowledge and how dare Sony not allow them to control it! Professional software should let the professional decide. 😉

This is what editors who don’t like FCP X complain about. FCP X does an incredible job of fixing bad footage as it ingests it. Some editors might complain because now you don’t need hours and hours of their skill to fix footage… any amateur who buys FCP X can have their footage instantly color balanced, and stabilized, and audio normalized, and background noise removed, etc. without having to know anything about what they are doing. This is why some “professionals” claim that FCP X is no longer professional tool because it can automate a lot of this. So it depends on the editor.

Sony chose to not modify your footage and treat you like a professional and you should know what you need to do. Not all “professionals” know what to do. Don’t blame the software for that. Some would argue that those who don’t know what to do should be using soft are that holds their hand through the process or hides the process from them. So it can be argued both ways for Sony to auto correct for it or let the editor choose to correct it themselves. That’s why I like the idea of having it a preferences that you can turn on and off.

BTW, I was just playing “devils advocate”. If Sony had an option to auto correct this I would keep it on because I can’t be bothered with this silly stuff anymore.

Sorry John, that is not deliberately done by Vegas developers.
They need to fine tune these little issues and others, then provide
you with an option of enabling or disabling.

I’m referring to bringing images in as Computer RGB (which they are) and not changing them to Studio RGB like some NLE’s do. That was deliberately done by the developers. That’s why they gave to a filter to control it yourself.

So I’ve been editing off and on and the Sony Levels thing that was mentioned seems to help but doesn’t do a lot with that preset. I’m a little on the colorblind side so this is particularly hard for me to fix but I have a picture here of a cup that I used the Save Snapshot feature to get 3 versions of. The one on the left is with the Computer to Studio preset, the one is the middle is without the preset and the one on the right is the original picture. I made this hastily in paint so don’t mind any size differences or anything like that.

So, Billy, what is your question?
