December 23, 2008 at 11:40 pmWell I couldnt stand to troubleshoot anymore, so I pulled the drive array from my system. I got a replacement card, and it still didnt work. Hey if the above poster is correct, maybe it IS the case itself. I haven
gone that route. Anyway I just bought a 12TB CalDigit HDOne, and I will post my experiences in that forum. If anyone gets to the bottom of it, please report back! -

December 29, 2008 at 7:12 pmHey Randall,
How did you make out? I am too lazy to wander through another forum 😉
So far the firmware fixed my problems. I can happily report I’ve been problem free with a 4 drive WD AAKS setup for a few months now.
I am adding another 4 next week one by one. Fingers crossed…

December 29, 2008 at 10:00 pmYea, I didnt make out too well with the RocketRaid stuff. Its been pulled from my system and sitting on the floor. I did buy the Caldigit, and i LOVE it man, though it is MUCH louder than the Enhance Box was, but its also much smaller.
I am glad the Rocketraid is working out for you. I may get back around to fiddling with it, but i just dont think i will ever be able to trust it, as it bit me pretty hard on this one. With that said, that set up was 1/4 the cost of this CalDigit Set-up….
I will definitely monitor this thread to see how others make out. I am also going to take a look at the case as well and see if there is anything to the SATA cable hypothesis…

January 8, 2009 at 4:03 pmHi,
I bought the smaller RocketRAID 3122 controller. However I could get this one to lock up the system within 30 min of use. I have once replaced the card and I have also returned the replacement.
However I have found an other thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8447080
indicating that the problem is that HighPoint can not handle files larger than 1 GB.This could very likely be the cause for my problems. Unfortunate I can not test this hypothesis, since I have returned my card.
This might be worth trying out. Can your installations handle files larger than 1GB?

June 7, 2009 at 9:00 pmI wish I read this thread before buying this RAID solution from PROAVIO (RR 3522 + EditBox 4MS). I got into the same problem (no problems to write to the array RAID 5 but intermittent errors with reading or copying files that freezes FCP or Finder). After several months asking PROAVIO support by email with no answer, and buying and changing a new mini-SAS cable for $120 without success, I called them by phone and they said that my card (by the serial number) belongs to a batch that is defective and should be replaced. I’ve already sent the card to PROAVIO, but at this time I guess that even receiving another card is not a guarantee that the problem will cease. A friend of mine said that BH isn’t selling RR3522 anymore, it is discontinued there. So, what do you guys recommend? Is there any other options of controller cards to use with EditBox that really works? Should I wait and try the replacement card that they said they will send to me? Or should I forget this thing, consider that I lost my money, and buy another solution from CalDigit or other more reliable company?

June 7, 2009 at 9:57 pmI’ve been using an Areca 1280ML card with a ProAvio Box connected to my Octo MacPro for almost a year of daily use with no problems… I would wait and see what they send you as a replacement before scrapping the system… Are they offering you any kind of refund if it doesn’t work out? I had the same problem with the Highpoint card and switched to Areca… Have been very happy with the system ever since.

September 24, 2009 at 11:58 amApologies for a bit of thread necromancy, but I thought I’d slip in my experiences.
We also have a Highpoint 3522 card that has experienced the same locking up problems as described in this thread.
It was going to be replaced with an Areca, but our supplier instead replaced it with a new 3522 that not only has new firmware but has also had a component replaced on the board that was causing problems. (He thought it was a capacitor)
This supplier is now recommending the 3522 again after this modification and apparently the card is now useable.
Although they did say they prefer Areca from a support perspective.Been using the card solidly for two days and it has not locked up yet. Although I am experiencing absurdly low write speeds. (Up to 1.4GB/s read but barely making 25MB/s write)

September 24, 2009 at 12:28 pmHow have you set up the RAID config?
