August 7, 2008 at 7:34 amThere’s an application I’ve used from Digital Rapids called ‘Copper’ which is specifically designed for sending large files over the internet. It’s used quite extensively in ‘Hollywood’.
It is a specialist protocol that gets much better performance that TCP-based protocols like FTP and HTTP.
It’s very good, but both ends require quite expensive software licenses to use it.

I work for an electric utility. The energy required to power these online transactions (the computers, the lines, the air conditioning to cool the computers, the monitors, etc.) is likely to be equal to or greater than shipping the disks.
“Going green” is marketing BS from where I sit. Consumers have no freakin’ clue where their energy comes from or how much their silly green misperceptions consume.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Its good to hear that my hunch was correct. I’ve been seeking truth about this whole “green” thing.
I’ve been trying for decades to “do what’s right”, but I find that since its the buzz word that it has become, there is a lot of miss information around. Can I contact you off herd for a few questions?
my email is toddreid@mac.com
Please contact me, so that we may chat.I do a few “green” segments for the department of defense each year and I want to make sure I’m passing along correct (and helpful) information.
thanks

August 7, 2008 at 6:42 pmThis link just arrived in my inbox today. Didn’t say if there was a limit to file size. Might be worth it to check it out.
