[Jacob Rosenberg] “I don’t follow you.”

    Hi Jacob,

I can’t gain much from deleting timelines as most are used. It would have been nice of them to put in the function that when you double click on a sub-timeline clip in a timeline that it explodes with the in and out points marked. That way sub-timelines could be easily replaced. Without it it’s a bear to do. Not having that ability and not wanting to ingest 33 hours to replace all my footage I thought I might just export an edl of the finecut and then re-ingest those clips as HD. But the finecut is composed entirely of sub-timelines. And most of those subtimelines have subtimelines in them. If edl export refers only to the sub-timelines in the fine cut and doesn’t recurse down to the original clips I can’t do it.

Why they didn’t include proper media management in this long awaited release is beyond me.

Yes. Nested sequences will reference source material in their timecode dropness.

I understand. You would want to basically, batch trim individual timelines on a case by case basis to reduce the overall project size and clutter. That’s a great feature.
The media management thing is tough and I can’t really say too much, but suffice to say that there was a lot of rallying and as is typically the case, not enough time. It remains very high on the list.

    Jacob-

Just a couple more quick (ish) timecode questions. First, in the 1.5 projects obviously all my NDF code is displayed as DF (or vice versa), when I open these projects in 2.0 is it smart enough to reconvert the timecode back to what it SHOULD be, or will I have to recapture and reedit to get clips with the correct TC. Secondly, will it read DF/NDF over the firewire, or do I need some kind of capture card to get it to recognize both types of code.

    slainte,
    marisu

Premiere Pro natively displays DropFrame, however if the clip was captured DVCAM NonDrop or is Standard Def Non Drop, premiere pro knows that it is Non Drop, but will display the dropframe equivalent. In 2.0 you can turn on a check box so if the clip is Non Drop in a Dropframe project, it always displays NonDrop. If the timecode is NonDrop premiere will tag the file accordingly and you can verify that by looking at it in the project window (now panel).
