I have been looking at CPU upgrades and I can fairly cheaply change to an i7 3770k.

Will I see vast improvements if I did this?

Overall you should see an improvement but you said you were specifically looking to speed up Magic Bullet and if they have GPU support, you may get a better boost by adding an appropriate GPU. I would definitely contact Red Giant and ask them what they recommend (more CPU or GPU power to help Magic Bullet)

looks to me they support OpenCL…. and AMD cards are on their supported list… though they do not go into much detail on particular cards

    Dell XPS 15″ 9350 i7, 512gb SSD, Nvidia 750m
    Intel i7 4770, R9 290, 32gb, 2xRAID0 Intel 240gb SSD, 2x2TB WD Green, 3×23″ Samsung LCDs

That’s great news. So the AMD card should be fine then.
