September 18, 2009 at 5:00 pmThanks for the information Jeremy.
Definitely something to consider.
We currently have BlackMagic Multi Bridge Extreme’s in the stations and I need to double check, but I think they can handle the down conversion to SD as well.
I’ll have to read you review on the Cache-A LTO4 system. That sounds like something to look into.
What exactly is the deal with the long GOP. From something that someone told me, with Long GOP video, if there is a change to something on your timeline (like a super is mis-spelled, Final Cut will have to re-render a longer portion of the timeline, or is there more to it then just that?
Correct we’ve considerd the AJA convertors and we do have a couple of them, but the main issue is the D9 decks are having problems, (dropouts and other issues) and we are having trouble finding someone who can work on them competently.
Thanks again;
Steve

Some BM cards do it in hardware, some don’t. Make sure you have hardware downconvert.

That’s one aspect of it. For a bit of a primer, read this recent thread:

“Yes, time to retire that format I’d imagine.

September 21, 2009 at 8:04 pm[Kevin Hamm] “he sweet thing about the EX1’s is that Log & Transfer is both quick and clean, and the final file you can just drop in your timeline and go. However, be sure to change your render type to ProRes422 HQ as the GOP(?) of XDCAM is really long, so when you make any edit, you have to re-render huge swaths of video. That was an annoyance that I didn’t know of up front, but thankfully, you can set that once and forget it in FCP7.”
Kevin;
Thanks. It looks like we are going with Sony.
Out of curiosity, how long does it take to transfer a 1 min clip and what is file size?Thanks;
