    For the record:
I am not seeing this on any hardware encoded h.264 content, regardless of the source, only in h.264 encodes in compressor.

Right, and that’s what (hopefully) we’ll be trying to get to the bottom of– That bug. Everyone: Yes, I know there’s an x264 workaround. Yes, I realize there are other ways of encoding h.264. I am trying to help Apple understand, acknowledge and fix this *bug*.

Thanks for the workarounds, I don’t need any. I just want to help this QT Engineer “get” this problem.

    Thanks again.

In seven years with FC I think I’ve never felt so little excited with a mayor release as FSC3.
Yes, some time your 8 cores will work at once, but meanwhile old pending problems still to fix.
I will update some time because I don’t want to get backward.

[Cory Caplan] “. I am trying to help Apple understand, acknowledge and fix this *bug*. “
More than 1 million FCS licenses and by September 2009 Apple haven’t had no feedback about this issue?
The people that make the beautiful videos for the Apple web sites, they haven’t spotted this problem?
Do the Apple engineers use Flash so they haven’t had the chance to see that there is something wrong?

FWIW, I too have been using a Matrox MXO2 Rack + MAX for H.264 encodes. the time savings alone is worth it…. fixing the gamma shifting is bonus. QT is riddled with gamma shift problems with other codecs too. some times software developers can write workarounds along the lines of “If QT 7.2 Then use fix1 else if QT 7.3 then use fix2” ect… but that obviously gets messy, and developers should not have to be working around apple’s QT problems. its even worse because apple fixes and breaks these consistently and you never know what you’re going to get between QT versions.

I do dearly painfully wish / need / want apple to get their act together and fix ALL QT gamma problems once and for all.
