[cjm1981] “Does anyone know the exact settings necessary? when capturing SD “

Use the same settings that you shot at.

[cjm1981] “I now realise that my USB Lacie hard drive is responsible for my dropping of frames when capturing in Apple Intermediate Codec….”

Capturing to a USB drive will always cause dropped frames, NEVER NEVER NEVER use a USB drive for video work.

And you are not using the Apple Intermediate Codec because you said that you are capturing as DV.

The Apple Intermediate Codec is used as an alternative to editing in native HDV, it is used to avoid the GOP structure of HDV.

    zach Smith!

thank you very much this has fixed my dilemma perfectly…

my first experience with forums has been very successful..

in response to zrb123 – i was attempting to use apple intermnediate codec to capture HD, as i had tried many settings. in response to USB external drive unfortunately my powerbook only has one fire wire port (12″) so i will be be resorting to use it for the time being or until i upgrade… i hope SD will be more forgiving on what limitations my system may have…

Thankyou to all that have offered information and suggestions…

As long as you stick to basic DV then I would still dump the USB drive and get a firewire drive that has a second firewire connection on it. I have rarely seen a drop frame on capture this way, you can still get dropped frames on playback, especially if you have several video streams playing at one time.

When editing video NEVER conceder USB an option.

    hi there again,

you will have to excuse my ignorance, as i am new to HDV format and this camera….

Those settings worked well, on testing an export to quick time player, the footage reverted back to being squared and image out of shape, will this be fixed when using dvd studio pro with 16:9 settings? and will this be full screen on a 16:9 tv and letterbox on a 4:3 automatically?

    cheers
