May 6, 2008 at 9:24 pm[frank unger] “My apprehension lies with the unknown”
One of my favorite moments in Star Trek is when Captain Kirk tells his officers: “Risk is our business!”
[frank unger] “will I encounter errors that are entirely new?”
New to you? Probably quite a few. New in general? Probably not very many.
If you spend more than 2 months on this board, you’ll find that nearly all of the the most urgent, strange, unique problems are actually quite common, and often a result of improper setup or workflow.
If you don’t already know how, learn to use the COW’s search feature. It’s much faster than waiting for a reply to your post- especially if that reply is telling you to search back through previous posts!
[frank unger] ” Will I be able to over come them like I’ve over come PC/Premiere problems? “
Without ever having met you, I’m going to go out on a limb & say that you will.
The same general rules of trouble shooting to chase down the source of a problem will stay the same.
And if you’re good at solving your own problems on the PC side, then you can certainly solve them on the Mac side. Some of the actual problems may even be the same.
OTOH, you will probably encounter some entirely new problems, or better still, old problems with entirely new causes!
[Bob Zelin] “be prepared to learn other stuff as well – for how long? – FOREVER ! “
This is some of the best advice I’ve ever seen.

May 7, 2008 at 2:15 pmWelcome to the club. Over the the years I have had to learn FCP, Avid (all systems), discreet, Quantel iQ, Sony Vegas, PPro, and 30 other systems and apps along with compositing and grading. Maya, Cinema 3D and 3D Studio Max are also tools I have learned and used for many years. I am now using Scratch for 2k and 4K projects along with RED stuff. It never ends. Start reading manuals or you will just be lost in the crowd. Don’t forget all the plugins you also need to learn.

May 7, 2008 at 3:07 pmThank you, David; quite valuable. Will do. That’s a critical step – can’t imagine doing it incorrectly for that long.
Any opinion on the (newer) HD Cinema displays? They claim to have excellent color matching, etc.
Frank
