March 31, 2010 at 7:12 pmI actually did do the RAM removal test and nothing! I am using Nagic bullet looks filters?? Could Red giant be the culprit?

March 31, 2010 at 7:16 pmWhat happens if you create a new sequence and drag a few of your clips into it without adding any filters?
Do you still get the crashes? -

March 31, 2010 at 7:39 pmMagic Bullet Looks is a pretty intensive plugin, that relies heavily on the graphics card. And then you have multiple streams of HDV, that is a GOP format that is processor intensive with just ONE stream. Yeah, you are putting a pretty heavy strain on the system. This is why many people recommend working with the footage converted to ProRes, and why many people DO work with the footage a ProRes. If you choose to work with it native, be aware of the drawbacks. Now you see what one of the drawbacks is.

March 31, 2010 at 7:40 pmI actually created a brand new sequence and made necessary changes. However I have not taken off all filters yet. I will try that but it crashes so much I barely get to move ahead. Do you know if upgrading to FCS 3 may help?
Thanks

March 31, 2010 at 7:52 pmUpgrading won’t help. Neither will making a new sequence. Nothing changes the fact that you are pushing the limits of the machine. FCP 7 doesn’t magically make that go away.

You’re probably a bit tired and frustrated by all this by now Thomas, but you have to bear with the remote troubleshooting process here. When you say you have made “necessary changes” then you have to explain what you mean by that or else folks are left chasing their tails. Did those changes include setting the sequence codec to ProRes and/or transcoding the source footage to ProRes?

April 1, 2010 at 2:01 amForgiver me you are right because at this point I feel like tying my MAC to my feet and jumping off a bridge with with it! What I have done is create a new sequence with Pro Res 422. Now I am trying to peel the Magic Bullets looks filter off it but it keeps crashing so I dont get very far. I will tell you the actions I am about to take so its more clear.
1) I will remove all attributes which are filters in my case
2) I will do a re-render of sequence to see if it makes it with out a crash
3) I will remove all attributes then reinstall FCP in hopes it catches something.I hope these are the right steps for success. I am so close to finishing my movie and actually have a huge meeting set up with Rob Zombie to see if he will present it and without a film I’m hooped! It seems now that I have changed the sequence to Pro res it crashes before it launches so im worse off then before. Panic button is definitely pushed now! Pleeeeease let me know what I can do to get out of this hell hole. I did add some RED cam footage last week which I guess now that I think of it has caused more issues then im used to. Could the RED cam footage being added be the missing link??
Thanks

April 1, 2010 at 2:13 amYou can remove all of your filters at once.
1. Duplicate your faulty sequence in the bin. This allows you to keep a copy of your sequence with all of the filters.
2. Double click on the duplicated sequence to load it into the timeline.
3. Press “Command – A” to select all clips in the timeline.
4. Press “Control” and click on your timeline. Choose “Remove Attributes”.
5. Under “Video Attributes” select “Filters”.
6. Click “OK”. All of your Magic Bullet filters should now be gone from this duplicated sequence.Since you said moving the playhead around in the timeline causes it to crash, do not move the playhead in the timeline while performing these steps.

April 1, 2010 at 2:22 amThanks for the tip but I have done that and it seems now im worse off with the timeline being pro res. I have a bad feeling im screwed here! I have removed the filters and cant even get 5 seconds of work done which is not even work but 5 seconds of looking at my timeline before it crashes. I have deleted the RED cam footage, Ive removed filters, Ive created the pro res sequence, what more can I do??
Thanks

April 1, 2010 at 2:38 amI asked in a previous post and it went unanswered: “What happens if you create a new sequence and drag a few of your clips into it without adding any filters? Do you still get the crashes?”
Can you create a new sequence and add a couple of clips without crashing?
You might seriously consider transcoding all of your footage to ProRes. That means running your original capture files through Compressor and using the new ProRes files as your source media.
I never work in native HDV because it drives me nuts. I went so far as to buy a Sony HVR-1500 with an HD-SDI output so I can capture at ProRes 1920X1080 and still retain my original timecode.
