As a matter of fact it may be more noticable with the noise being made prominant by encoding at the expense of resolution of the rest of the picture.
I have had this before, where a minor lens flare becomes an issue once encoded…..Mike Brennan

I shot a project in Vid Rec at zero DB gain for very low light situations. It was noisey for sure in HD.
I made a DVD from the DVCproHD capture and the noise pretty much disapeared.

The company (though I believe they are now under IVC) is Lowry Digital out by the Burbank airport. If you are in L.A. that is the best bet. They have a propriertary system that the founder developed. It is quite amazing, really breathtaking. They mostly do film and I had to sweet talk them into taking are project. They did so other HD stuff for a very high profile client, it was beyond belief the before and after. They are not cheap, but if you need the noise out and its an important scene, it is pretty amazing. I ran test on teranax (twice), Spirit post telecine grain removal software, after effects etc. nothing could even come close.

That’s kind of what I think will happen versus what the previous post from Michael says. The main reason I think this is because I actually did the offline with downconverts and really never noticed the noise was that bad. In NTSC it’s almost as if everything just kind of “blurs” together. 🙂 Of course I do want it to look good in HD, so I’m working on that.

Thanks for the info on this company. I will inquire and see what they say. I did find out at the color correction house I’m using that they have a DVNR system (to reduce noise) with their Davinci 2K, so we’re trying that now.
