[Tom Wolsky] “After they’ve had enough carrots you give them grass and carrots and see which they eat.”

Let your rabbits smoke the grass they’ll certainly eat more carrots.

[Ian Bailey] “That’s because you were too busy trying to explain why nobody wants to be trained in Avid any more.”

That’s a bit of a silly statement. Personally, I’m quite enjoying my journey back to MC. The improvements are terrific. I’m really looking forward to the release of v6. I believe it is coming in December. I wonder if we will have those FCP X “in a few weeks” APIs and “summer updates” by then.

What about iMovie? I guess I’m in the “what does it matter as long as she enjoys it” camp.

I’d say your daughter is a little young for FCPX. I’ve given it a thorough work out in the last few months and I’d say Apple’s target market is 12 year year olds.

How old are sixth graders? 11? I’ve taught legacy FCP to sixth graders in Texas. I guess she could start with that and work her way up to X.

    All the best,

Well, she’s 11.5. By the time she enters university or college, or Art college, there will be so many changes in our industry it won’t matter what she learned on.

The difference between someone who can edit, and someone who knows some software is the editor knows how to tell a story. What ever software you give her, make sure she learns how to tell a story. That will make the most difference in her years to come.

Oh, and don’t be disappointed if at 11.75, she changes her mind and wants to be a director or something in fashion! :))

Try offering MC training and you’ll see it’s a true statement.

[Ian Bailey] “Try offering MC training and you’ll see it’s a true statement.

Certainly not a true statement here in Hollywood, Pal.

It’s funny when people talk negatively about Avid when pretty much every one of their favorite shows and movies were edited with Media Composer. If we’re going to talk about training…I’d argue that classroom training for Avid declined because of online tutorials and Avid offering free Media Composer trials. It’s much cheaper to go that route than pay $700 for a weekend class.
