FCPX 10.3.1 compresses audio

Why would a file that plays fine in QT or in other apps become out of phase when brought into FCPX? Do the stereo channels get switched somehow? I noticed it happens with any AIFF I import. This only started happening in FCPX10.3.1.
Every frame has its own unique place in space and time.
