    Is this any help?

I finally figured this out in case anyone needs to know. Randy was close above. Under the System Settings, in FCP, I had everything set to another drive, not the same one that FCP is installed on. After all sorts of trial and error I found that I had to change Audio and Video Render to my main drive, then it ran great.

[Michael Gissing] “FCP can’t handle 32 bit floating point and probably neither can the other software you tried. You might try stripping the audio off with software like Audacity and converting to 16 or 24 bit fixed aif or wav files @ 48khz.”
Michael, that “32b FP”, is nothing to care about.
I think that doesn’t refers to any sample-rate, but about the 32bFP processing in FC.
Seems that FC always render audio at that bit depth.
If you have a look to the Browser, you will notice that every sequence has “Audio: 32b Floating Point”.

In my experience those problems related with files acces, etc, are System related. Nothing with FC.
I would explore Spotlight suggestion and try some classical maintenance operations; permissions and my Diskwarrior.
Rebuild directories and clean the “File Finder Info”. normally fix all those issues.
