I can confirm the J-series can do the 23.98-29.97 conversion. Recently captured a whole bunch of material that way. It certainly appears to be a 3:2 pulldown. Perfectly clean.

It could be an option board. So people who rent one shouldn’t blindly assume it will have that capability.

Check the Sony website. J-H3 decks normally support 23.98 with 3:2 pulldown. The iLink (Firewire) output is an option board. Every J-H3 I’ve used supports 29.97, 23.98 and 23.98+3:2 pulldown playback. HD-SDI, downconverted SDI and composite SD output.

The one gotcha is that if you shoot 23.98, the 29.97 TC output can be DF or NDF. You have to make sure that in an offline/online edit scenario, you do it the same way both times or your online recapture will be at totally bogus TC locations.

    Sincerely,
    Oliver

    correct.

I said that I mostly work on SR and cadence is a chooseable option on the SR deck that I work on.
