    [Jeremy Garchow] “1) is outdated”

True, but still preferred by many Pro Tools editors/mixers. In some cases, with older software, it’s the only option. Also X2Pro, so far, has delivered some inconsistent results. As the editor, you have no way to correct this before handing it over, since you can’t see what you are giving in the AAF unless you, too, have ProTools.

[Jeremy Garchow] “2) is overcome with an updated workflow (isn’t this what Evan and Liz have alluded to in this post, workflow?)”

No. Many top-end grading houses are running Resolve on Linux, NOT Mac. They speak EDL. You send an EDL and media files and get back trimmed, graded files. You have better luck if the house is running Baselight. I would add that Premiere Pro CC does about the best job of this sort of relinking.

[Jeremy Garchow] “3) Doesn’t apply to FCP7, and actually, FCPX does it better.”

Not FCP 7 per se, but part of the FCS package. You cannot produce branched DVDs with multiple video assets in FCP X. Some clients still want this.

And that’s the only hold up.

I have not had inconsistent results from X2Pro, but perhaps that’s my luck. It’s nice to be able to talk to Marquis and ask them what’s up rather than try and fix that with Apple.

EDLs from FCP7, however, are a different story. To each their own set of issues, I guess.

And while it’s not perfect, you can use DaVinci to import and EDL and spit out an FCPXML. Not ideal, could be better, but it’s free.

Again, I was using your original quote for reference:

[Oliver Peters] “What does seem to be telling in this discussion, is that over two years after FCP X was released and four years after FCP 7, no NLE sufficiently checks all the boxes to serve as an adequate replacement for FCP 7 for many shops. “

There is no equivalent of DVDSP in FCPX. You are correct.

[Oliver Peters] “Ha ha ha ha ha !

But, to be clear, I’m talking about FCS to augment my needs, not its continued, long-term, exclusive use. At least not by me. Right now – on and off – I work in 4 NLEs (7, X, PProCC and MC). There’s also Smoke, but in my market, people have dabbled, but no one has adopted.

I truly wish I could follow this, but since brandy has been spilled all over it, there’s no way to follow this thread back. Its not even listed in the index.
