Actually you have nailed it Joel… FCP does in fact have a few more hardware requirements than a program like Premiere, and it requires a tad more knowledge and experience on some levels as well. By design, Premiere is a solution that Adobe wanted anyone at any level to able to use on any computer. Apple has gone in a slightly different direction.

Hard drives are among the most inexpensive computer components available now. A 500gb firewire 800 drive is probably a very good place for you to start. You can get a LaCie firewire 800 drive for about $160 that will do the job nicely until you need more speed and throughput later. ESATA is faster, but requires a controller card in additiona to the drive unit itself.

Thanks David, I’m sorry if I came across as insulting towards the program or it”s users, however, you might notice that any negative comments I was making earlier all ended in a question mark. I at no pointed stated that Final Cut sucked or anything like that, as if I had total knowledge on the situation. If I didn’t expect that Final Cut had answers to this problem I would not have asked this forum.
As for my “lack of professionalism”, I never had any in the first place, nor did I try and pretend I did. So if I have insulted anybody or made Final Cut users look bad because I am not a professional yet I am deeply sorry.
The fact is I am learning, I never said I was a professional, and I was making no attempt to pass my self off as one. I jumped on this forum to learn, not to stick my chest out.

The actual reason I started this post was because I have a business partner who was making Adobe Premier sound very good and I figured that there would be more to it. It didn’t seem right that Final Cut could not play real time. I wanted to find out that this matter with Final Cut was not a flaw in the program but a mistake I was making.

I am very happy to have been enlightened on this matter and I am grateful to yourself and the others who have responded.
