March 22, 2015 at 9:30 pmIn order for a FCP 7 project to run smoothly, I’ve heard that 100MB is max really, and that a project over that can crash and is likely to run really really slowly. Is this the case? My 70MB project is very slow and I wonder if i am maxing it out.. thanks??

March 22, 2015 at 9:41 pmNegatory! That’s very unlikely to be the source of your problems. Odds are your issues stem from issuses with your media storage.
So, provide the details of your hard drives, how they are connected, and how full they are.

March 22, 2015 at 11:51 pmMy hard drive is a seagate 3TB which has 1.9TB still free. It’s plugged in to the electricity and then through a USB port in the back of the computer (think it is a USB 3 as well). I do have a lot of layers on the timeline (60-99) for about an hour in duration. I was thinking this may be the cause but my other projects are slow too. Is this a computer issue or hard drive issue?

March 23, 2015 at 4:22 amUnless you installed a USB 3 card in your Mac (not possible on iMac or Mac Book Pro, your hard drive is running at USB 2 speed, which cannot sustain the thriughput necessary for video editing. You need FireWire drives at the very minimum.

March 23, 2015 at 6:10 amShe indicates that here:

But she also says she has 99 video layers. I suspect that might be the issue. That’s a lot.
