I have used Fetch in the past. But given that FCP can handle FTP, OS X can handle FTP (all included in my already purchased software) I don’t feel like coughing up more $$ (and getting approval AGAIN from management).

I don’t think what I’m trying to do is all that unheard of to be honest, I don’t see any reason to throw more $$ at it.

Plus I’m using Cyberduck for free as my FTP software and it works wonderfully. But it doesn’t have the Automator feature like Fetch does.

Plus I’m still confused why Folder Actions don’t work. I have the Automator working fine, but the Folder Actions don’t trigger. So having Fetch isn’t going to help me anyway. And yes, I do have the “Enable Folder Actions” checkbox checked.

I didn’t say it in my earlier post, because I am far from a networking expert…but I am thinking there is something up with your specific system….or with Omneon (which I have no experience with, at all).

Both AFP and SMB work perfectly on my system (running Snow Leopard) and I was unaware of any changes by Apple. There has been no interruption in my use of these protocols, but I am not using an Omneon Playback Server (or any playback server…just file sharing)

Perhaps going back to square one and trying to get your original setup working is the way to go. Have you talked to the makers of Omneon about troubleshooting your connection issues?

In talking to the Omneon tech suppport about our issue, this is what I learned.

Apple made a change to AFP in Leopard that made it in-compatiable with the Omneon. Omneon has a solution, however it requires a firmware upgrade (that they will charge us for). However, there are 2 other software companies (Microfirst and OSI) that tie into the Omneon as well that would need upgrades to be compatible with the new Omneon firmware. We stopped researching this option there as the Omneon, Microfirst, and OSI were a pain to get to work together from the beginning and are the central heart throb of our station being on air and handling billing. I figured it’d be less detrimental to our stations operations to pursue getting our edit stations modified.

I’m currently using Cyberduck to manually FTP files, but I’m still in search of a solution from within FCP that I can export the files and have them FTP’d on their own.

But the moral of the story is that an upgrade of OS and FCP version is giving me headaches. As if we haven’t all heard that story before… ha!

[Brian Prom] “Plus I’m still confused why Folder Actions don’t work. I have the Automator working fine, but the Folder Actions don’t trigger. “

They aren’t really scripts so I think it’s probably an OS security measure.

I have a few simple folder actions on a server in the studio and I have to ‘help’ them get started as they aren’t sitting there waiting like a script can. They only react when something has been completed.

I would download the Fetch trial and see if it works. If it does, it’s cheap.
