[Dave Klee] “I thought the MOTU V4HD would be the perfect box, but these quirks have me a little weary. I guess it’s too much to ask something to be powerful and easy at the same time.”

Hence the reason that virtually everyone here ( ME TOO) chose the Kona 3.

For portable solutions take a look at the IoHD it has more usability on a laptop, offering better connectivity, more storage options, realtime hardware up/down/cross conversions (others only offer these in software)

Yes it is more expensive- but it does what it does in hardware, in real time, without issue, without waiting. To me nothing is more critical than the little time I have.

One thing to be careful of with Blackmagic is whether or not it has hardware based conversion. The Multibridge Extreme does, the newer Pro and Eclipse do not. I like being able to see both HD and SD output at the same time and the Extreme is the only Blackmagic product that will do that. I have also found that software based conversion can sometimes be soft compared to hardware conversion. Unfortunately, the Extreme has been discontinued.

If I had to buy something right now I’d get a Kona 3 and some analog to digital converters.

    Hi,

I’m looking for an interface for FCP to run on my mac book pro.

as far as I can see now there are 3 interfaces:

    1 Aja IO hd
    2 Matrox MXO2
    3 Motu v4hd.

The project i’m working on is a concert DVD recording. Sound has been mixed in 5.1 and send to me as 6 discrete channels. One thing I would like the interface to do is to be able to output the 6 channels of a 5.1 project. Then I can check my project, 6 ch fades and cut’s. Have a last check of sync between sound and picture.
Then convert to AC3 and mpeg. then go to the dvd factory.

This means goodbye to the AJA since this one has only 4 analogue audio output’s.

Then there is Matrox MXO 2, that has 6 audio output’s on RCA plugs…
    Not balanced…workable but not preferable.

The Motu v4hd brings all I would like concerning in and outputs.
I had the opportunity to work with it one day, I wasn’t to happy.

_ I couldn’t scroll or scrub my audio frame by frame to find the sync points in my footage.

_ a couple of times motu showed me a glitch in picture and a loud “Bang” in sound… felt like FW800 couldn’t sent all the data over to the motu in time.

    – I also noticed that the Motu can not put out analogue and digital audio at the same time…

Are this known issue’s with the MOTU? There not much to be found about users of the Motu on the web…

    please let me know,

    Regards,
