July 20, 2011 at 7:41 amFace detection functions by tracking groups of pixels, it is far more accurate than a simple selection of HSL values. Even if we were only to have tolerance adjustable sliders with the face detection algorithms, the tracking and the quality of selection would be far more accurate than a garbage mask and an HSL selection. Values bleeding into the background are particularly troublesome with the more traditional methods.
I guarantee that the correction software that incorporates this kind of technology into it’s product would have an instant fanbase, especially with large production houses who deal with these kind of issues every day. In terms of time savings it would be a godsend for them.

July 20, 2011 at 8:12 amso let’s call it “amazing” face detection … seriously, you have one of the most advanced grading tool in your arm for a peanut, play with it, you’ll see that the tracking is fast enough to perform any “face or flesh” correction in a second … plus the curve, plus the mask tool …. We don’t need this stuff, we need a Resolve for mac, yes, we need Film grain, yes, we need a more intuitive animation tool, yes … we need colorist convention in Vegas YES…. 🙂 I’ll try to be less rude next time …

You know what’s really funny ? The amount of people streaming into this craft and their need to iMovie it.
I think , be careful what you wish for. One day youmight be not needed anymore when a button does the work .
If people ask me for frame by frame mask animation for more than 10 minutes, I send them to the Nuke/Mocha/ Flame department .
The DaVinci tracking tools combined with shape animation and keying really should get the job done, or it’s called a visual effect, and therefor another system might be more suitableA slice of color…
