July 27, 2006 at 9:11 pmAnother possible quick fix:
Split up your media. Put some of the frequently accessed media on all the drives. That way they’re all busy at frequent intervals and won’t get a chance to sleep.
Once you get past this problem, consider getting a SATA RAID with hot-swappable drives. They’re fast and, in the long run, cheaper than firewire drives.

July 28, 2006 at 7:14 pmThanks – I was thinking the same thing.
Wondering if a Firewire Hub might help too…Ah, SATA…if only. I’ve bought or caused to have bought some 20 of these Segate Firewire/USB Hard drives and it’ll be a while before I can justify swithching them all out.
I’m wondering also if i need to update the firmware on the drives or get upated drivers for the drives….doubt it, but who knows.
