    HUGE thanks Rafael.
I have am basically in the same boat. I’m new to Compressor, so I’ll have to jump into it. Is there a reference book I should look into for more information about Compression Best Practices?

It would truly help to know why the bit rate affects video. When is too high of Keyframes too high?

Details: working with 1440 x 1080 HD from pro-sumer camera.
Creating: Audio and video for the web

I’d really like to get the most out of my video and maintain the size of the image (and the aspect ratio). So far your post about changing it to 576 x 324 is a HUGE help though I’m ashamed I’m using Quicktime Compressor to do it. SHAME SHAME I guess.

    Hi Dean,
    [Dean Shirley] “it to 576 x 324 “
I suggested this size because was the closet to the target size of Joey, but you can change it as long as keeps the 16×9 relation.

The higher the data rate you can keep, the less you need to compress your video. You will be able to achieve more quality.
There is not a rule to set your data rate. You have to discover that by your self. Movies for the web in h264 works quite well around 500Kbps. For HD, around 4/5 Mbps looks great.
To set the Key Frames I think is even more difficult.
A Key Frame means an uncompress (no really uncompress) frame. The more Key Frames you set your movie will look better, but also will be bigger.
I always let it in Automatic. I have not a cue to set it manually.

[Dean Shirley] ” I’m using Quicktime Compressor to do it”
Time to try it through Compressor. You can get always a better job than done through QT Conversion.
    Cheers,
    rafael

Rafael, I would like to know more about your rendering method in FC. I use FC Express, and I cannot find the setings you are mentioning… Is that a FCP feature only?

    Best regards, Tor Erik
