October 15, 2010 at 8:18 pmjust one quick question…
i want to get a external fw 800 drive from g tech… got a unibody 13inch macbook pro with 4gb and 2.53ghz cpu… the drive is a 5400rpm… will it be an advantage if i get a 7200rpm fw800 drive… when the system is running on a 5400rpm? or would you replace the stock hdd with a 7200rpm?
at the moment i tested 1080p footage from a canon 7d and imported it 1:1 mxf… alot of frame dropping there ^^ playing the original h.264 files is no problem thou…
thank you in advance.

it doesn’t matter WHAT the system drive is running. The two really don’t have anything to do with one another. you want the external to be 7200 RPM so that it can play back footage smoothly.

No…no reason to.

1:1 MXF? Avid? This is a FCP forum. If you are using FCP, and you converted the footage to 1:1 MXF..no wonder you are having issues. ProRes 422, or ProRes LT…that’s what you need to be converting too. Even if you were on an Avid, I wouldn’t do 1:1…I’d use DNxHD 145.
