August 7, 2014 at 1:55 pmThe consoles are all built-in, Mads, so that would have to be a HECK of a motor…
And no, I’m not going to work standing up, in any case.

Walter, I know you have used the adjustable edit bay desks for a while so you can avoid sitting all day and do some standing. Just getting out of the chair for a while can be great for the back. How is that situation working? Are people using the feature, do you like it?

You might want to read this article from Haworth on ergonomic seating. I have two Haworth chairs that I bought slightly used from a NH state surplus outlet, and they are almost infinitely adjustable.
In addition to the chair, it’s very important to do regular computer and desk stretches, and my Osteopath tells me that getting up and walking every half hour or so (even for a very short time), as well as changing the seat height every couple of days helps save the back.

I’ve had those desks going on 6 years now I think. I LOVE them. I stand a good portion of the day and Kylee stands for a while usually each day too. Up to each editor, every edit suite has the same Antho Fit Console so they all have the option to sit or stand.

August 11, 2014 at 5:37 pmI sit in a 1989 Chromecraft that I bought for $10 at the local thrift store. Sold as a rock and fairly comfortable. I’ve used the Aeron before and really didn’t like it. It has a hard frame around the border of the seat which causes pain and loss of blood flow when I tuck my right ankle under my left thigh. I don’t know what they were thinking when they designed those things!

August 12, 2014 at 7:05 pmThe Aeron is great. Fantastic warranty as well, my seat broke after 8 years and they replaced it, no questions asked. So 12 years of use, no more back problems, for about $80/yr.

October 10, 2014 at 1:47 amI just picked up a SwingChair on craigslist for $80 bucks. I’ve only had it for a day, but so far I love it. The armrests are very adjustable and the seat and back ‘follow’ you wherever you go!
