Looks like you got there with the off-set tip before me.

As for the reason the 1400 offers better performance and more features for less money (at the time I bought the 1200A I had a Panasonic rep at NAB tell me that it was simply NOT POSSIBLE for this size and price deck to have flying erase heads and therfore it would never be able to do insert edits) – it’s cause us 1200A beta testers had a deep desire to be abused.

Oddly, everything looks to line up perfectly if I plus the edit in point on the assemble by 1:00 (00;59;01;00 for one minute of bars, slate, etc.). Doing this lines up everything up to hit at 1:00:00:00. I’m going to go back and figure out the off-set as you’ve laid out, but I’m desperate to get 2 shows out and this seems to line up the top and end and everything in between to the frame. Thanks again.

You also might want to watch that Firewire port.

I have a 1200 with a blown out Firewire which Panasonic here (India) says is caused if you don’t SHUT DOWN the deck and Mac before connecting the two together.

Panasonic in India do NOT replace the Firewire port under warranty.

That’s a beautiful work-around – and since the rs422 to the Beta deck is frame accurate there’s no need for the firewire tape offset.

Any serial control deck with time code out should do – I bet I could take my old DA88 out of mothballs just for this purpose.
