And we also use Decklink cards. It will do a fine job of monitoring. They have some issues mixing NTSC DV and uncompressed footage but if you are staying in DV you will find no difference in workflow.

December 16, 2005 at 7:35 pmlooks like panasonic sells the AJ-YAD25 – which it says is for the newer AJ-D255, which replaces the 250 – nicer features actually – do you know if that card will fit the 250?

December 17, 2005 at 4:25 amI think you mean the AJ-YAD255 board. I noticed B&H sell it. I’m trying to find out the same question for one of our 250s. I know the 250 we use for firewire has a AJ-YAD250. I think the deck firmware has to be updated to a certain version if you have an early version of the deck.

December 18, 2005 at 12:58 amMike – Other have answered your question regarding the use of DVCPro footage so I’ll leave that alone. As for real time viewing of your footage on an external monitor through PPro, I use to use a cheap little Canon Elura40 as a DV/analog bridge to view my footage. Just hook up the firewire from your puter to your camera and then take the video output from the camera (usually a triple mini connection to 3-rca’s) to the monitor. Works ok. There is a very slight delay in audio if you listen to both your computer and TV speakers at the same time. Something like 1/4 sec delay.
I currently use the Matrox RTX100 card now and really love it. -

December 19, 2005 at 11:50 pmWe’re using Panasonic’s AJ-SD93 deck and the direct firewire link to PPro. You even get device control without needing an RS-422. As others have mentioned, the DV codec is the same for DVCPRO25, DVCAM, and mini-DV, so no worries there. The thing I’d like to take advantage of is this deck’s DVCPRO50 capability, but so far, other than going out to analog and back in via a board like the Decklink, I’ve yet to find a direct firewire workflow. My partner, who uses this deck directly with FCP, rubs this in all the time 🙂

January 4, 2007 at 7:22 pmRalph,
I am using Premiere Pro 1.5.1 with a brand new Panasonic AJ-SD93 deck, but can’t get PP to connect via firewire. It won’t see the deck to start loading in footage? I also noticed that the available decks listed in PP doesnt list this deck. How do you have your setup configured to work?
Thanks!
