February 7, 2008 at 10:19 amCarsten,
I really apresiate your time and knowledge.
It looks that I will end working in 1080.
But, another issue:the project Im just starting is for TV so, 1080 is Ok for that. But there are some real posibilities that this project will end in movie theatres, so I will need to do a transfer to film.
In this case,
will the 1080 will be a problem? Thanks Carsten, Walter and everybody

February 7, 2008 at 11:51 am[Carsten Orlt] “You can’t capture 720p25 via firewire because FCP only accepts DVCProHD at 59.94 over firewire, But to shoot 25p the Varicam has to be set to 60 Hz.”
You can easily extract the 720/25 using the Frame Rate Converter once you’ve brought the footage in via Firewire.
[Carsten Orlt] “But if you, as you said, use the conversion function of the 1200 and set it to the 25HD mode the VTR will convert the 25 Fps straight into the 50Hz world. But in this mode it only outputs 1080psf25, NOT 720p. Not sure why Panasonic did it this way, but they did (same for the 1400 by the way).”
Not in our experience. As I said, we owned the 1200A for about 2 1/2 years and now own the 1400. Only had to do 720/25 once, but it did work and there was no issue with 720/25 at all. I didn’t even know it was any sort of issue. We just set the deck to 25 and captured like it was any other capture.

February 7, 2008 at 8:34 pmI never done a film transfer, so I don’t know what the best format for that would be?
Best to ask post houses/labs who do this transfers what format they prefer.
